Barrett House
6 Barrett Place, Randwick
The establishment of Barrett House as a public sustainability demonstration house provides the opportunity to see working examples of practical sustainability measures including:
- energy and water efficiency
- sustainable transport options
- productive gardens
- the use of sustainable building materials
- waste avoidance, minimisation and recovery
The Retrofit
Renowned sustainable living designer, Michael Mobbs is advising and designing on the retrofit of Barrett House into a model of sustainable living.
Michael is aiming to show... "that a house or unit may be made sustainable for energy and water for a capital cost of less than $15,000 and achieve energy and water bills less than $200 for two people, and productive gardens on a household budget of $15,000."
Other sustainability products and examples will be displayed at Barrett House outside of the $15,000 retrofitting budget. This ensures that the house can demonstrate a full range of options and choices available to householders.
Whether you rent or own, live in a studio or a detached house there will be something for everyone.
